The Dojo devices, compared
Dojo's card machines cover everything from a full countertop-and-portable setup to a pocket reader for a market stall. Here's how the main options differ.
| Device | Best for | Receipt | Connectivity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dojo Go Max | The flagship portable for restaurants, cafés and retail — 6.5" touchscreen, up to 10-hour battery, sub-2-second approvals | Built-in printer | WiFi + 4G, auto-switching |
| Dojo Pocket | Order-and-pay in one hand for hospitality — 143g handheld, 30+ cloud EPOS integrations, 8-hour battery | Digital (QR / email) | WiFi + 4G, auto-switching |
| Dojo Wired | Countertop and self-service kiosk — mains-powered, tethered, nothing to charge | Digital / via EPOS | WiFi or Ethernet |
| Tap to Pay on iPhone | Your own iPhone (XS or later, iOS 16.4+) as the card machine — £0, no contract | Digital | Via the Dojo app |
Dojo Go Max is the flagship — a portable terminal with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, built-in receipt printer, a battery Dojo rates at up to 10 hours, and both WiFi and 4G with automatic switching so it stays online if one drops. Dojo Pocket is the handheld for hospitality: a 143-gram device that takes the order at the table and the payment in the same hand, sends receipts by email or QR code, and links to 30+ cloud EPOS systems. Dojo Wired is the countertop option — mains-powered and tethered, WiFi or Ethernet, with a kiosk mode for self-service. And Tap to Pay on iPhone turns a compatible iPhone (XS or later, iOS 16.4+) into a card machine through the Dojo app at no cost.
What the fees actually look like
This is where most "Dojo cost" articles online contradict each other, because there isn't one price for everyone. Here is what Dojo actually publishes (checked 17 September 2026): for businesses under £100,000 a year in card turnover, a 1.2% blended rate on all card transactions; above that, a custom rate on either a 12-month fixed plan or 30-day rolling terms, and bespoke pricing beyond £5 million. On top of the rate there's a 5p secure-transaction (authorisation) fee per transaction and 50p per refund. Devices are £25/month for the Go Max (or from £149 to buy on the current offer), £20/month for the Pocket, £15/month for the Wired, and £0 for Tap to Pay on iPhone. Broadly, then, expect two components:
- A monthly device cost — for the machine and the service around it
- A transaction fee — a percentage (and sometimes a small fixed amount) on each payment
Above £100k the number is individual — and even the published 1.2% is a starting point, not a ceiling on what's negotiable. We benchmark your quote (or current statement) against what comparable businesses actually pay and tell you whether it's competitive. Get your Dojo rate checked free →
Next-day settlement
One of Dojo's genuine strengths is settlement speed. By default Dojo settles on the next business day, releasing funds from 2pm so they typically land within a couple of hours — and a paid Faster Next Day Transfer upgrade releases funds from 6am every day, including weekends and bank holidays. For hospitality and retail, having Saturday's takings on Sunday morning can be worth the fee; we price it for your account.

How to get the best Dojo rate
Here's the part Dojo's own sales team won't frame for you: because rates are negotiated, the deal you're offered isn't necessarily the best deal available. As independent enablers we do three things a salesperson can't:
- Benchmark your quote against what similar businesses genuinely pay
- Negotiate on your behalf, because we know where there's room to move
- Review it again down the line, so your rate doesn't quietly drift out of line
It costs you nothing, and if your current deal is already sharp, we'll tell you that too.
Dojo card machine FAQs
How much does a Dojo card machine cost?

Above £100k the rate is negotiated per business. The figure that reflects your true cost is your blended effective rate — total fees divided by total takings — which is exactly what we check on your quote or statement.
